“Alderley’s first hole is an exciting
and tricky one. I think that the drive is the most important shot you will take
on this hole. A good drive will leave you with a downhill lie, and a decision
whether to lay up short of the brook which meanders close to the front of the
green, or play a difficult mid-iron to a flat green. To add to the risk, the
“Black Ditch” encroaches close to the back right of the green. Par
